The Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption of Our Lady is considered to be the main church of the Győr Diocese. It is located in the most ancient part of the city, the place where the Rába and the Danube meet, on what is known as Káptalandomb (Chapter House Hill) across from the Püspökvár (Bishop’s Castle). Apart from the Püspökvár, this is the city's oldest and most significant monument. One of Hungary's most important relics is kept here, Saint Laslo Herma. The eastward facing three-aisle basilica's classicist main facade boasts large, half-circle shaped windows, above is the tympanum with vases at its corners, behind is the tower capped with a Louis Seize style steeple. The bronze gate of the main entrance was created in 1938 by Bandi Schima, a craftsman of Győr. The north and south faces of the basilica feature red marble gates made in 1774. The cathedral was granted the rank of minor basilica in 1997 by Pope John Paul II.

The Discalced Carmelite Order came to Hungary in 1697. The 50.000 forint legacy left by the archbishop György Szelepchényi made it possible for the order to purchase the Perger House in Győr located near the Castle Bastions and neighboring the Office of Military Architecture and to turn the building into a temporary monastery in 1699. Shortly after, the plans for the permanent order house were completed and construction was finished in 1732. The church's foundation stone was set in 1721 and consecrated in 1725.

Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish Church
Built heritageHungary, 9027 Győr Mátyás király tér 4.
The darkest day in the history of the church is April 13, 1944, when the building was devastated by an air raid. The roof, the coffered ceiling, the glass windows, the organ in the sanctum as well as the internal furnishings were destroyed. The congregation decided to renovate the church in such a way that it would resemble the original building. In 1970, the windows were returned to their former splendor through the work of deacon and later parson Gábor Pataky lending renewed quality to the place of worship. In 1988, the new liturgical space was built based on plans by József Marosi. The 25-square-meter stained glass roof above the sanctum was completed in 2004 which now bathes the altar in light.
Győr-Szabadhegy Church of the Reformed Congregation
Built heritageHungary, 9028 Győr József Attila u. 31.
From the 1920s, the members of the Reformed congregation of Győr-Szabadhegy wished to have their own church. Their cause was helped greatly when two of their benefactors donated a good amount of land to the church where they could build a school and housing for their teachers, but World War II interfered with the construction of the church. The idea of building a new church only came up at the end of the 1980s and construction work began under the ministry of Ferenc Bittner. The church was consecrated on the first Sunday of Advent in 1992 and this was when the first service was held. The tower was built in 1999. The church foremost serves the faith, but it has undertaken some cultural missions in past years as well, so concerts, book launches, exhibitions, and charity events are often held here as well.
