The darkest day in the history of the church is April 13, 1944, when the building was devastated by an air raid. The roof, the coffered ceiling, the glass windows, the organ in the sanctum as well as the internal furnishings were destroyed. The congregation decided to renovate the church in such a way that it would resemble the original building. In 1970, the windows were returned to their former splendor through the work of deacon and later parson Gábor Pataky lending renewed quality to the place of worship. In 1988, the new liturgical space was built based on plans by József Marosi. The 25-square-meter stained glass roof above the sanctum was completed in 2004 which now bathes the altar in light.
