Statue of Mary

The statue of Mary was commissioned by Rozália Hegedűs, mother of Viktor Kovács, in 1902 to show her gratitude. On the hill in Bögöde where the Mary-statue stands today, there was once a round church.

A graceful row of plane trees lines the street leading from the port to the town. The gallery forest and fields are a favorite with hunters and nature hikers.
Port of Dunaremete

One of the ferry stations between Bős and Dunaremete. The statue of the 'Danube Sailor' along with a memorial park can be found in the port. They honor the sailors who once worked and served here.
Batthyány Castle

Dr. László Batthyány-Strattmann, the physician of the poor worked from his own home. The Batthyány Castle has been used for educational purposes since 1949 and houses a primary school even today.
Cséfalvay Watermill

This is the last of the hundreds of water mills that formerly operated in the region. The three-story, pure white building with a wheel 6 m in diameter catches the eye from afar. Today, it houses a permanent exhibition about water mills.
Szent István (Saint Stephen) Square

Where the main square is today, there was once a lake surrounded by thatch-roofed houses. The lake was gradually filled up and the area fell into disrepair until at the end of the 1930s a new park was established in the area where the Martyrs' Memorial and the Saint Stephen Memorial can be seen today.

The formerly uniform village scape now shows much more diversity. Thatch-roofed brick houses with master beams have been replaced by much more modern dwellings. A beautiful example of folk architecture called the Tóközi Residential Home is located under the address Fő (Main) Street 11.
Pieta Statue

The Bögöde cemetery houses what is likely the country’s oldest Pieta statue. An unknown artist created the work in 1746 for the opening of the cemetery. Due to its presentation and composition, that is, its “naive realism,” this work is considered to be an art historical rarity with its depiction of Mary holding her son Jesus after he is taken off of the cross. The cemetery in Markota has been in use since 1681, the cross marking the graveyard has stood there since.
Memento Memorial

In October of 1991, a memorial was dedicated in Dunaszerdahely to honor the Jewish community that had once lived here. The memorial depicts a torso in the sheet of stone breaking the tables of the Ten Commandments and burning them, underneath, we can see the footprints of the victims.
