As a young child (and let us be honest, even as an adult), many of us were amazed and attracted by the mysterious world of South American and African rainforests and jungles, the wild cats, the colourful birds, and the countless monkey species. The tours we offer may not be in America or on the African continent, but no matter how strange it may sound, we invite you into a rainforest now. How is it possible? The floodplain park forests along the Danube are the Central European counterparts of the tropical forests.

Tour planning

A bike and hiking route starts from the village of Bodíky and we set off here to discover the mysteries of the forests and, if we are lucky, to see the fauna in addition to the plants living here.

Similarly to the Amazon River in Brazil, the Danube River defines the life of the floodplain forests, as the branches of the river have created a swampy countryside rich in islands that is home to thousands of animal and plant species. Although we cannot find jaguars, toucans, or giant snakes here, countless native animal species can be found here, and the area serves as the wintering ground for many waterfowl species.

The tour we offer joins the forest nature trail created here, which uses information boards to present certain topics - environmental protection, tree species, the flora and the fauna of the area, etc. As the hiking tour we have planned is longer and more tiring, the educational trail can be a great alternative for novice hikers to take a shorter walk “in the soft lap of Nature”.

At the end of the hiking tour, we invite you to the town of Gabčíkovo where the tourists can choose from excellent restaurants and admire the Amade Castle and castle park in the town. The real attraction, however, is the hydroelectric power plant next to the town, which shows how man has transformed nature to drive the water in his own mill. Fortunately, the change in the Danube’s riverbed left some of the floodplain forests untouched, thus it forms part of Rye Island’s natural treasures.

The St. James pilgrimage Pannonhalma – Wolfsthal

This pilgrimage includes sights such as the Benedictine Abbey of Pannonhalma, downtown Győr, then from Lébény, we head for Mosonmagyaróvár and Rajka, then it is on to Slovakia and Austria. In Wolfsthal we will join the official pilgrimage heading for Santiago de Compostela, the Camino de Santiago.

In vino veritas – Modern, while reminding us of old times

One of the oldest wine regions of Hungary, dynamically developing wineries, quality wine production, beautiful countryside that attracts the visitors, millennial culture and world heritage site, rows of cellars, tasty wines: this is the Pannonhalma wine region. Discover the wineries in the varied vineyards; taste the heavenly juices and discover the other sights of the area!

Though it is unusual, we have put together several mini tours for you within the tour, typically with two wineries ‘in the lead role’, so you can comfortably explore, on foot, the countryside and taste the fruit of the vineyards everywhere, over several days.

The list of wineries is only a short one. What else would you add, and what would be the theme of the new mini wine tour?
