The more health conscious among us today are beginning to subscribe to this notion again and we are applying natural treasures to maintain a sense of well-being, to prevent or even treat illnesses. That’s right, you must take off your shoes and socks to walk through the Barefoot Lavender Park. This is beneficial to the health of the visitor. You can walk along paths with different coverings in order to freshen circulation and improve the sensory abilities of the bottom of your feet.

Beautiful natural surroundings, quiet and a little bit of adventure awaits visitors when they come to this park in Börcs. The Rába-Quelle Healing, Thermal and Adventure Spa is located in a beautiful area where the idyllic peninsula where Moson Danube and the Rába meet. Its healing waters are mainly beneficial for people suffering from erosive bone and joint issues and chronic inflammation of the joints and muscles as well as gynecological problems.

This 67 °C spring water, already mentioned in medieval chronicles, was certified as healing water in 1978 and is beneficial for a variety of ailments. The water comes from a 2000 meter deep thermal well and is used by Rába Quelle Healing, Thermal and Adventure Spa, an establishment built in a beautiful location where the Moson Danube and the Rába meet on an idyllic little peninsula from where visitors can also take in the view of the historical downtown. According to the Hungarian Institute of Occupational Health, the Győr healing water is hot spring water with hydrogen carbonate and chloride, which, due to its iodide ion content is classified as healing water with iodine content. It is recommended foremost for the treatment of erosive bone and joint illnesses, chronic inflammation of muscles and joints as well as gynecological problems.

The company FinomSág located in Győrság offers a variety of small farmer's products (eg.: herbal syrups and jams) made from the produce from their own farm and without any preservatives or additives and with gentle heat treatment.

Their main products: herbal syrups and jams as well as fruit syrups, jams and jellies, cold-pressed fruit juices, Aronia berry powder, lavender water, lavender oil and sleeping pillows with lavender. In their 'syrup hut' in Győrság at their plant, visitors can register ahead of time to purchase products or even take part in an interactive demonstration showing how syrup is made.

The lavender groves and herb gardens along with the Herb House and the Lavender Distillery and Manufactury at the Pannonhalma Abbey uphold and develop a centuries-long tradition. Their products made with healing herbs can be purchased on-site as well as online.

The monks of Pannonhalma have been trained in the healing arts since the earliest of times. They brewed teas, made balms, Baths, and tinctures from the herbs growing in their garden. Their recipes can still be found in the old volumes kept in the library. The Herbal House and Lavender Distillery Workshop nestled among the lavender groves and the herb garden maintains and develops this centuries-old tradition. Permanent programs: Lavender Weeks: the last two weeks of June and the first two weeks of July The Blessing of the Herbs: August 15. Pannonhalma is a place where the unity of the soul, mind and body becomes a tangible reality. The products (cider vinegar, loose leaf tea, liquors, herbal tea mixtures, cookies, and artisanal chocolates) made from the herbs can be purchased on-site or online.

On the trail of the Romans - Ripa Pannonica

From Britain to Mesopotamia, the Roman Empire conquered the entirety of the Mediterranean coastal regions and at its peak, controlled a 6 000 000 km stretch of dry land. Defending such an expansive empire that was also very diverse geographically and culturally was only possible under very organized conditions. The several thousand kilometer long Limes (Latin: “path”) served this purpose, the borderline traversing thousands of kilometers across mountains and valleys, winding along the river lines was given the name “ripa.” The section of Roman limes along the Danube in Hungary bears the name Ripa Pannonica. Visit each of the municipalities where the remnants of the limes can be seen. And while you're on the tour, do not forget that you are at a potential World Heritage sight, as this section of the limes is among the Hungarian sights on the UNESCO world heritage tentative list.
