Church of Saint Roch and Saint Sebastian

The fact that the people of the Szigetköz could have their own church built was, apart from providence, thanks to the collection initiated after the plague outbreak of 1707 and the generosity of József Lipp, a wealthy citizen of the city, whose name is remembered in ‘golden letters’ by the congregation to this day. With the permission of the Bishop of Győr and the Archbishop of Esztergom, the foundation stone of the church was put into place in 1710 and in 1712, the bishop János Simor consecrated the church in honor of Saint Roch and Saint Sebastian. The centuries have seen many changes to the Baroque building, for example, it was restored two-hundred years ago, renovated inside and out one-hundred years ago, but the three altars and the pulpit have remained in their original state to this day.

Serbian Greek Orthodox Church

The Serbian Orthodox community of Győr erected the church, which is a combination of different styles, in 1727. The tower stands in front of a beautiful arched facade. The sanctum is buttressed as well and enclosed with three sides of the octagonal shape.
