Arrabona EGTC

The Bishop of Győr, György Juranics set the foundation stone of the new church of Börcs on October 16, 1834, and consecrated the church on September 20 of the next year. The bishop's coat of arms can be seen above the entrance. The altar painting depicting Saint Bartholomew was finished in 1837 as was the organ made for a price of 400 pengős. East of the village, an image of the Blessed Virgin was erected by nobles Mihály Somogyi and the widow of Lőrinc Kulcsár, Mária Simon. The column painting was made by a carpenter from Öttevény named Antal Fleskács. On Good Friday of 1859 a windstorm toppled the image and Károly Láng, a sculptor from Győr restored it.

Bust of Béla Varga

Béla Varga was born in 1903 in Börcs. After the Second World War broke out, upon the request of Prime Minister Pál Teleki he took to dealing with the issue of the Polish refugees. He assisted the polish refugees in emigrating to countries west of Hungary. Varga organized the Polish High School in Balatonboglár. During the war, he took part in the national independence and resistance movement. Béla Varga was an internationally respected figure. He was given honorary Polish citizenship and General De Gaulle, president of France awarded him the National Order of Merit. Varga died on October 13, 1995, he was 92 years old.
