On the north side of the road from Somorja to Dunajska Streda running parallel to the Danube there once stood an inn by the name of Pipagyújtó (Pipe lighter). A smaller battle of the 1848-49 Revolution was fought near here. The men of the armed forces who had overtaken the area around Somorja were pressing on toward Tejfalu for reconnaissance purposes when they came under enemy fire. Two soldiers lost their lives here and they were buried together in a single grave by the inn. The memorial we can visit today is a fenced-off park with a grove of trees surrounded by fields with an obelisk standing in its back area. A plaque was placed at the foot of the obelisk with the names of those who died a heroic death here. The column in the park was completely renovated for the 150th anniversary of the battle.

Local name: Pipagyújtó emlékmű

Attendance: Szabadon, korlátlanul látogatható
